A well-pitched and maintained tent ensures a relaxing camping holiday. Following a few simple rules can prevent many common problems from arising in the first place.
The right campsite
A suitable campsite is half the battle. Make sure the ground is firm and dry , and remove any branches, stones, or sharp objects before setting up camp. A sheltered location increases comfort and safety.
Avoid places:
- under resinous trees
- with direct, strong UV radiation
- with very tall grass (obstructs ventilation)
Properly setting up a camping tent
Always pitch your tent according to the manufacturer's instructions. A groundsheet protects the tent floor and reduces condensation.
More tips:
- Position the tent entrance in a sheltered spot, if possible.
- Tighten the tent, but not excessively.
- Check guy lines and tent pegs regularly.
Excessive tension can damage seams, while excessive looseness provides a surface area for wind to attack.
Guy ropes are mandatory
Even in calm weather, wind can suddenly pick up. Guy lines provide stability and protect the tent from damage.
Never force zippers open – if necessary, treat with candle wax or silicone spray and check the tension.
Don't forget – be well-prepared for camping!
Before the holiday:
- Check packing list (tent, poles, pegs, ropes…)
- Pack emergency supplies (tape, waterproofing spray, spare tent pegs)
Taking down and properly storing your tent
After camping:
- Remove coarse dirt
- Shake out the inner tent
- Pack poles and pegs separately.
Always store your tent in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated place . Moisture can lead to mold, mildew, and unpleasant odors.
❌ No harsh cleaners
❌ No washing machine
Impregnation & Seam Sealing
CampFeuer tents are factory-impregnated. However, damp spots can still appear at seams or in high-wear areas. A seam sealer can help in these cases.
Important:
- Smoke from barbecues or open fires damages the tent fabric.
- Chemical sprays (e.g., deodorant, hairspray) can permanently destroy the waterproofing.
Recommendation:
Re-waterproof your tent at least before and after each season . This increases:
- Waterproofing
- UV protection
- Lifespan of the tent
Condensation inside the tent – not a defect
Moisture inside a tent is usually condensation , not a material defect. Polyester tents are not breathable – moisture collects on the inside.
Common causes:
- Temperature differences between inside and outside
- Breathing air & body heat
- Cooking or heating in the tent ❌ (Danger of fire & life!)
- Wet clothes in the tent
- High humidity
Here's how to reduce condensation:
- Use ventilation openings
- Leave doors or windows slightly open
- Good air circulation between the inner and outer tent is ensured.
Choosing the right campsite, setting up your tent properly, and maintaining it well will help you avoid typical camping problems. Our tips will help you get the most out of your tent, store it correctly, and reduce condensation.
